Mahakavi Bharathiar prose on Air and Rain. S.V.Ramani. Tamil Speech.

 காற்றே வா மெதுவாக வா,
ஜன்னல் கதவை அடித்து உடைத்துவிடாதே.

Mahakavi Subramania Bharati is more sung than read. He is more a poet than a writer of prose. The general impression is that the Tamils wrote only poetry and not prose. Subramania Bharati wrote an unfinished novel, Chandirikaiyin Kathai, echoing the reformist views of Viresalingam Pantulu and G. Subramania Aiyar. Other than that, he wrote his musings on the Vedas, which he called Vachana Kavithai–Prose Poetry. This portion of Bharati’s writings deserves a closer look. The same has, not attracted the attention of scholars to the extent that it must have been.

He has written prose about Vayu and Rain. Vayu is one of the gods of the air. There are not many hymns on him. “The soul of gods, and of the world the offspring. This god according to his liking wanders, His sound is heard, but ne’er is seen his figure. In his prose he has described about Air and Rain
Subramania Baharati was an ardent worshipper of Shakti. He sees Shakti or Energy in action in every deity and in every action of man or beast. He writes: “In the flood of Energy or Shakti, the Sun is but a bubble. Shakti is intoxicator of love, gives determination, makes one fear-conscious, enables one to boil and cool down. In the ocean of energy, the sun is but foam. In the Vina of Shakti the sun is a string, a note. In the dance deluge of Shakti, light is a beat. It is but one member in Shakti’s art treasure.

May the Great Shakti bless us with poesy, protection, imparting, cleansing, doing well and enlightenment? We seek her blessing in our effort to know and enjoy the fruit of growing the Vedic plant, after watering it with love, ploughing with the help of knowledge, removing the weed of Shastras! Let us bow our head to God of Air {Vayu}.

RAJAH IYER

Bharathi also wrote a sirukathai'Chinna Sankaran Kadhai' which was suddenly missing oneday. They all suspected his attender who was also missing from his house for a longtime.many of Bharathis friends like Srinivasacharyar suspected the attendr but Bharathi refused to believe it..one fine morning that attender came back..in a adevastatingly poor skeleton shape..when asked 'why you have gone down so much?'He said the cops took him to Cuddalore and beat him repeatedly to know'what Bharathi was doing?what Bharathi was upto?'I refused to divulge anything about Bharathi.."
Bharathi smiled and said'I know you are a very trustworthy fellow..'allothers shed tears for suspecting an innocent, loyal attender..From Bharathi by Yaduguri ammal, daughter of Srinivasacharyar I bought in the recent Book exhibition..
Bharathi is God sent to us..we didnt know how to preserve him for a longe time!pity indeed!
